From Friends to Forever

They say love happens when you least expect it, which was exactly the case for Courtney and Brandon.  The two met at their apartment’s gym and since neither were looking for a relationship, became best friends instead.  “However, I will be the first to say that I knew he was going to be trouble the second I met him,” says Courtney.  “I remember texting my friends about how cute he was.”  After a year of being, “just friends,” they officially began dating.  According to Courtney, “once we finally put that title on it, the rest was history.”

The Proposal

On their two year anniversary, Brandon proposed to Courtney on a celebratory trip to Boone, NC.  He had a well-thought-out plan to propose on top of Grandfather Mountain, with a photographer and aerial drone set up to capture the moment.  But, there were just a few challenges Brandon had to overcome before he was able to pop the question.

Their day started out great with breakfast at a local farmer’s market but, “all of the calm and collectiveness went out the window as we approached Grandfather Mountain, only to find there was a long line of traffic to get up the mountain,” recalls Brandon.  This posed as an issue due to the time Brandon scheduled with the photographer.  “My palms were sweating and my heart was racing as we slowly crept our way up to the peak. Courtney kept asking if I was okay and I kept laughing and just telling her that I needed to use the restroom.”  When the two finally reached the top of the mountain, they both realized just how high up they were.  Not only that, but they had to cross a swinging bridge to get to where Brandon planned on proposing.  “Courtney very clearly said she did not want to go across. The whole time she was asking me why are you making me do this?”

In the end, the adversity was worth it, and the two left Grandfather Mountain as fiancés.  “It was the most terrifying and magical moment of my life,” Courtney told us.

The Wedding Day

One year later, on November 5, 2017, Courtney and Brandon’s fall wedding took place at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, NC.  The date fell on the start of Daylight Savings, a challenge that ended up being a blessing in disguise.

The First Look

The time change caused a change in plans, requiring the couple to do a, “first look,” in order to capture photos on the venue grounds.  Although it wasn’t their preference, the first look ended up being the most special and intimate moment of Courtney and Brandon’s wedding.  It also gave them an opportunity to exchange letters aloud to one another.  And if you keep reading, you’ll see that Brandon still had a priceless reaction to seeing his bride a second time. Veritas Photography captured the moment beautifully.

The Ceremony

The time change also caused concern with the ceremony which took place at 5:30 PM underneath the veranda.  Again, the change became a benefit, allowing the couple to exchange vows amongst the dreamy colors of sunset. Then, they were announced husband and wife at nightfall.

The Reception

The ceremony was followed by a reception in an adjacent ballroom within River Landing Country Club.  Courtney wore her lace wedding gown for all of the traditional reception happenings, such as the first dance, dinner and cutting the cake.  Then, changed into a shorter cocktail dress once she was ready to dance.  “I’m SO GLAD I did that because I was so much more comfortable and I was able to dance!”

Appreciating the Moment

To ensure they spent ample time together during their wedding, Courtney and Brandon requested that their photographer sporadically pull them away for private pictures.  This served as an excuse for the two to step away from the action and simply be together.  “We decided to make it a priority that we focused on what mattered the most at our wedding, which was each other.”  The couple share these moments as their favorite from their wedding day.  “We were actually able to focus on each other and really remember that this wedding was about us and our love for each other.”

Tips from the Newlyweds

Courtney’s advice for brides-to-be is to ask fellow brides about wedding costs.  “That way you can be sure you’re not paying too much for any one thing.”  She also recommends Pinterest as a great way to find affordable wedding ideas.
When asked what wedding splurge was worth the money, the couple agreed it was their honeymoon.  Courtney and Brandon spent their days post-wedding at the Sandals Regency La Toc in St. Lucia, which was, “worth EVERY PENNY.”
